B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology

Overview

Medical Laboratory is an important pillar in the health care delivery system. The accuracy in the Lab results directly reflects on the prognosis of the patients. Bachelor and Masters of Science in Medical Laboratory technology course inculcates the students to develop practical skills to work in Biochemistry, blood bank ,histopathology ,microbiology, haematology and Clinical Pathology laboratories. Students learn methods and techniques of Laboratory procedures in college lab as well as, well equipped modern automatic computerized Laboratory in the hospitals also.

A Clinical Laboratory Science deals with many and varied laboratory analyses and use critical thinking in determining the correctness of test results. Study involves in the interdependency of testing information and have knowledge of physiologic and pathologic conditions affecting results in order to validate them.

MMM College of Health Sciences offers both B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Medical Laboratory Technology. Following the courses, students will be able to understand the causes, mechanisms of disease development, and methods of testing and determining the causes and types of diseases. Unlike doctors and nurses, who have direct contact with patients, this programme provides an in-demand opportunity in the field of healthcare where medical lab technologists work without direct contact with patients but still have a positive impact on their health.

Career Prospects

The Medical Laboratory is the back of any hospital, either a small nursing home or a large corporate hospital .However much a doctor can assess the patient, he or she cannot give proper treatment without the benefit of laboratory results

Such professionals can find work in private laboratories, hospitals, blood donor centres, emergency rooms, and clinics. They can also work in crime laboratories, research facilities, pharmaceutical companies, universities, and defence.

Graduates can find employment in Government and private sector for industrial research, product development, technical support and working in forensic labs. They can also start and run diagnostic centres along with the medical professionals.

A Medical Laboratory Technologist's roles and responsibilities are as follows:
