Overview

The Physician Assistants are skilled health care providers qualified by advanced academic and clinical training to work cooperatively with Medical and Paramedical staff in developing and implementing the care plan, perform physical exams, order and interpret lab tests, assist surgery, delivering patient care, rehabilitation, treatment, diagnostics and health improvement interventions to restore and maintain optimal physical, psychological and social wellbeing. The MMM College of Health Sciences ,unit of Madras Medical Mission being the pioneer in preparing students for the Physician Assistant profession and provides sophisticated didactic and clinical training in all areas.

Physician Assistants work in a variety of settings, including the outpatient wing, wards and critical care units, operating rooms, and other super specialty units such as Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery Pulmonology, Nephrology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Endocrinology, Catheterization labs, Coronary care units, Organ Transplant units, and trauma care, among others.

The Education methodology includes classroom instruction and Compulsory Clinical Training Practicum in Basic Medical Sciences, clinical medicine, Surgery, all specialization of Medicine, home health care, disease prevention, and Medical ethics and ensures one to gain knowledge in all areas of medicine

Eligibility for Admission

  • Candidates belonging to all categories for admission to the Allied Health Sciences should have passed the qualifying examinations after period of 12 years of study with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology with minimum 65% marks in each subjects (Academic / Vocational Stream).

Course Director


Dr. Jacob Jamesraj is a Senior Consultant in the Cardiac Surgery Department at Madras Medical Mission in Chennai, as well as the Course Director for the B.Sc Physician Assistant programme. He has 29 years of experience in this field. In 1999, he received his MCh-Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery from SreeChitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology in Trivandrum; in 1993, he received his MBBS from Madras University in Chennai, India; and in 1996, he received his MS-General Surgery from Christian Medical College, Vellore. He is an Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons member (IACTS). He has performed more than 300 coronary artery bypass surgery procedures independently .He has keen interest in training junior doctors and physician assistants.
